Review of the book No soy un robot. La lectura y la sociedad digital

Abstract

This document is a review of a work related to research and Didactics of Languages and Literature. The book reviewed is No soy un robot. La lectura y la sociedad digital, an essay written by the Mexican author Juan Villoro in 2024. In the work, Villoro reflects on the impact of technologies on society, and above all, on reading. Throughout the 52 essays, the author reflects on how the massive use of technology affects people's perception of reality. Amongst the themes he deals with are the excessive trust placed in technologies, the lack of privacy on the internet, addiction to social networks and the new ways of reading and writing. To this end, Villoro uses multiple examples of both real cases and literary references that are closely related to the themes addressed. Despite recognising the value of technology, the author emphasises the need for it to be a tool that we must learn to control, not something that we are hostages of.
