Education in the 21st century has transformed the teaching and learning of language and literature by demanding the development of cross-cutting skills—such as digital, communicative, linguistic, and collaborative skills—in which language plays a central role in accessing knowledge. It is therefore essential to promote the use of Open Educational Resources (OER) in language and literature instruction, given their potential for innovation, accessibility, and classroom transformation. The purpose of this research article is to update the results of a previous literature review (2017-2022) on the use of OER in teaching language and literature at the international level, considering the period 2022 to 2025, and applying an AI tool to ensure greater rigor and precision in the search. The results show that, although fewer articles were identified (22 compared to 25), the output demonstrates greater methodological and didactic diversity, along with greater awareness of activities that promote the development of communicative competence in students. However, despite this progress, significant gaps still persist in the implementation of OER for teaching Spanish language and literature as the mother tongue at the primary and secondary levels in Latin America and Africa. These findings indicate the need for more research and implementation of OER in education.
